Frontally-Mediated Syndromes in Late Life: An Exploration Lead Investigator: Patrick Brown Institution : Columbia E-Mail : pb2410@columbia.edu Proposal ID : 295 Proposal Description: We are interested in examining the intersection of depressive, functional, behavioral, and cognitive symptoms in patients evaluated by NACC. Our hypothesis is that there is a group of patients who have a clinical syndrome characterized by dysfunction of the frontal lobes manifesting as depressive symptoms, functional impairment, executive dysfunction, and behavioral changes that do not fit well into a currently defined diagnostic group. We plan to perform a factor analysis on the NACC data to determine if there is such a group of patients. To perform this factor analysis, we will need the results for a measure of behavioral symptoms (the NPI with subtests), a measure of depressive symptoms (the GDS with subtests), functional impairment (Pfeffer items) and measures of executive and memory function (the NACC UDS neuropsychological tests, including the logical memory and digit symbol tests) for the initial evaluation for all NACC subjects.
